الباب الثالث في أخبار السقيفة وما جرى عليها صلوات الله عليها بعد وفات أبيها من الظلم والأذى فصل قال الشيخ في تلخيص الشافي والطبرسي في الاحتجاج ، وابن أبي الحديد في شرح النهج ، عن كتاب السقيفة لأحمد بن عبد العزيز الجوهري ما ملخصه : إنه لما قبض رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله ، اجتمعت الأنصار في سقيفة بني ساعدة ، وأخرجوا سعد بن عبادة ليولوه الخلافة وكان مريضا فخطبهم ودعاهم إلى إعطائه الرياسة والخلافة ، فأجابوه بأجمعهم ، ثم ترادوا الكلام فقالوا : [ إن أبت مهاجرة قريش فقالوا ] نحن المهاجرون وصحابة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله الأولون وعشيرته وأوليائه فعلام تنازعوننا الأمر من بعده ؟

Chapter Three: on the reports of the Saqifa, and what befell her, God's blessings be upon her, after the death of her father, of wrong and of injury. Section. The Shaykh said in Talkhis al-Shafi, and al-Tabrisi in al-Ihtijaj, and Ibn Abi al-Hadid in his commentary on the Nahj, from the Book of the Saqifa of Ahmad b. 'Abd al-'Aziz al-Jawhari, what may be summarised thus: When the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, was taken, the Ansar gathered in the portico of Banu Sa'ida and brought out Sa'd b. 'Ubada to appoint him to the caliphate — and he was ill. He addressed them and called them to give him the leadership and the caliphate, and they answered him all together. Then they turned the talk back and forth and said: [If the emigrants of Quraysh refuse, and say] we are the Emigrants and the first companions of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, his clan and his friends, then on what ground do you dispute the matter with us after him?

قالت طائفة منهم : فإنا نقول إذا : منا أمير ومنكم أمير . ولن نرضى بدون هذا أبدا .

A party of them said: Then we shall say: from us an emir and from you an emir; and we shall never be content with less than this.

فقال سعد بن عبادة حين سمعها : هذا أول الوهن .

Sa'd b. 'Ubada, when he heard it, said: This is the beginning of weakness.

وسمع عمر الخبر ، فأرسل إلى أبي بكر أن اخرج إلى ، فأرسل إليه أني مشتغل .

'Umar heard the news and sent to Abu Bakr: Come out to me. And he sent back to him: I am occupied.

فأرسل عمر ثانيا إليه أن قد حدث أمر لا بد لك من حضوره ، فخرج إليه فقال : أما علمت أن الأنصار قد اجتمعت في سقيفة بني ساعدة ، يريدون أن يولوا هذا الأمر سعد بن عبادة ، وأحسنهم مقالة من يقول : منا أمير ومنكم أمير . ففزع أبو بكر أشد

So 'Umar sent to him a second time: A matter has arisen which you must attend. So he came out to him, and he said: Do you not know that the Ansar have gathered in the portico of Banu Sa'ida, wishing to give this affair to Sa'd b. 'Ubada, and the best of them in speech is the one who says: from us an emir and from you an emir? And Abu Bakr was seized with the utmost
