بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم نحمدك يا من جعل حب محمد النبي وآله " عليه وعليهم السلام " وبغض أعدائهم دعامة للدين ، وركنا للإيمان واليقين ، وسببا للخلاص من عذاب المهين ، فبلغ وأوصل أفضل صلواتك وسلامك عليهم أجمعين أبد الآبدين ، والعن وعذب أعدائهم الناصبين الجاحدين .
In the name of God, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. We praise You, O You who made the love of Muhammad the Prophet and his Family — peace be upon him and upon them — and enmity towards their enemies a pillar of the religion, a support of faith and certainty, and a means of deliverance from the humiliating punishment. So convey and deliver the best of Your blessings and Your peace upon them all, for ever and ever; and curse and chastise their enemies, the Nasibis who deny them.
أما بعد فلما كان كتاب بين الأحزان في مصائب سيدة النسوان " صلوات الله عليها وعلى أبيها وبعلها وبنيها " - من تأليفات خادم أهل البيت عليهم السلام وذخر المحدثين وخاتمهم الحاج الشيخ عباس القمي تغمده الله بغفرانه - كتابا قيما جامعا نافعا في موضوعه ، مرتبا على أربعة أبواب واثنين وثلاثين فصلا فقد قام الخير الصالح الصفي المجد في نشر آثار العلماء تقي بن المهدي المشهور ب " العلامة " مدير مؤسسة دار الحكمة زاد الله في توفيقاته بتجديد طبعه ونشره وطلب مني أن أبذل جهدي لتحقيق الكتاب وتصحيحه وإخراج مصادره ، ومع العجز عن ذلك فقد لبيت مطلوبه ، وأقدم شكري إليه أن تفضل علي بذلك وأرجو من الله أن يمن علي بالهداية والتوفيق والقبول وإحياء آثار الرسول وآله عليهم السلام
To proceed: since the book Bayt al-Ahzan, on the afflictions of the Mistress of Women — God's blessings be upon her, and upon her father, her husband and her sons — being among the writings of the servant of the People of the House, peace be upon them, the treasure of the traditionists and the last of them, al-Hajj al-Shaykh 'Abbas al-Qummi, may God envelop him in His forgiveness — is a valuable, comprehensive and beneficial book on its subject, arranged in four chapters and thirty-two sections: the virtuous, sincere and diligent promoter of the scholars' legacy, Taqi b. al-Mahdi, known as al-'Allama, director of the Dar al-Hikma institute — may God increase him in His enabling grace — undertook to print and publish it anew, and asked me to devote my effort to verifying the book, correcting it, and tracing its sources. Despite my inadequacy for that, I answered his request. I offer him my thanks for the favour he has shown me, and I ask God to grant me guidance, success and acceptance, and the revival of the legacy of the Messenger and his Family, peace be upon them.
