الباب الأول في ولادتها وأسمائها وكناها صلوات الله عليها فصل ولدت فاطمة صلوات الله عليها في جمادي الآخرة يوم العشرين منها ، سنة خمس وأربعين من مولد النبي صلوات الله عليه وآله وكان بعد مبعثه بخمس سنين ، كما روي عن الصادقين عليهما السلام 1 وكان مبدء حمل خديجة رضي الله عنها بها ، إن النبي صلى الله عليه وآله لما عرج به إلى السماء ، أكل من ثمار الجنة ، رطبها وتفاحها ، فحولها الله تعالى ماء في ظهره ، فلما هبط إلى الأرض واقع خديجة ، فحملت بفاطمة عليها السلام ، ففاطمة حوراء إنسية 2 .

Chapter One: on her birth, her names and her kunyas, God's blessings be upon her. Section. Fatima, God's blessings be upon her, was born in Jumada al-Akhira, on the twentieth day of it, in the forty-fifth year from the birth of the Prophet, God's blessings be upon him and his Family — that is, five years after the beginning of his mission — as has been related from the two truthful Imams, peace be upon them. [1] The beginning of Khadija's bearing her, may God be pleased with her, was this: when the Prophet, may God bless him and his Family, was taken up to heaven, he ate of the fruits of the Garden, of its fresh dates and its apples, and God Most High turned that to a fluid in his loins. When he came down to the earth he lay with Khadija, and she conceived Fatima, peace be upon her. So Fatima is a human houri. [2]

وكلما اشتقاق النبي صلى الله عليه وآله إلى رائحة الجنة كان يشمها ، فيجد منها رائحة الجنة ورائحة شجرة طوبى ، وكان يكثر لذلك أيضا تقبيلها وإن أنكرت عليه بعض نسائه ، لجهلها بشرف محلها 3 .

Whenever the Prophet, may God bless him and his Family, longed for the scent of the Garden, he would smell her, and find in her the scent of the Garden and the scent of the tree of Tuba. For that reason too he would kiss her often — though some of his wives objected to him for it, out of ignorance of the nobility of her station. [3]

فإن قلت : إن الإسراء برسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله كان قبل الهجرة بستة أشهر ، وقيل : كان في سنة اثنتين من المبعث وكان ولادة فاطمة عليها السلام بعده

If you should say: the night journey of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, was six months before the migration — and it has been said that it was in the second year of the mission — while the birth of Fatima, peace be upon her, came after it
