Bakr called out in woe and ruin and said: Would that my mother had not borne me! [4] And 'Umar said: How strange of the people — how did they put you in charge of their affairs!

And you are an old man grown senile, who is distressed at a woman's anger and rejoices at her being pleased. And what is there for one whom a woman has angered? And the two of them rose and went out. [5]

And when the two of them had gone out, Fatima, peace be upon her, said to the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him: Have you done what you wished?

He said: Yes. She said: Then will you do what I command you?

He said: Yes. She said: Then I adjure you by God that they should not pray over my bier nor stand at my grave. [6]

And it is related that she said to Asma' bint 'Umays: I have found ugly what is done with women — that a cloth is thrown over the woman and it describes her to whoever sees. And she said: I have wasted away and my flesh has gone. Will you not make for me something to cover me? Asma' said: When I was in the land of Abyssinia I saw them make a thing. Shall I not make it for you, and if it pleases you I shall make it for you?

She said: Yes. So she called for a bier and turned it upon its face, then called for palm-branches and bound them to its legs, then covered it with a cloth; and she said: Thus I saw them do. So she said, the peace of God be upon her: Make the like of it for me; cover me — may God cover you from the Fire. [7]

And it is related that when she saw what Asma' had fashioned she smiled; and she was not seen smiling except on that day. And she said: How good this is and how fair! By it the woman is not known from the man. [8]

[The visit of the women of the Emigrants and the Ansar to her, and what she said in answer to them] In al-Ihtijaj, Suwayd b. Ghafala said: When our Lady Fatima, peace be upon her, fell ill with the illness in which she died, the women of the Emigrants and the Ansar came in upon her to visit her, and said to her:
