from these two men what you have seen; and they have come repeatedly, many times, and you have turned them back and not given them leave. And they have asked me to ask leave for them to enter upon you.

And she said: By God, I shall not give them leave, nor shall I speak a word to them from my head until I meet my father and complain of them to him for what they have done and what they have committed against me. 'Ali, peace be upon him, said: I have guaranteed them that. She said: If you have guaranteed them something, then the house is your house and the women follow the men; I shall not oppose you in anything. So give leave to whom you wish. So he went out, peace be upon him, and gave them leave.

And when their eyes fell upon Fatima, the blessings of God be upon her, they greeted her, and she did not return the greeting to them, and turned her face away from them. So they moved round and faced her face, until she had done this several times; and she said: O 'Ali, draw the cloth across. And she said to the women around her: Turn my face away. And when they had turned her face away, the two of them moved round to her and asked her to be reconciled to them and to pardon what had come from them towards her. So Fatima, peace be upon her, said: I adjure you both by God — do you remember that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, brought you out in the middle of the night over a thing that had happened in the affair of 'Ali, peace be upon him? And they said: By God, yes. And she said: I adjure you both by God — did you hear the Prophet, may God bless him and his Family, say: Fatima is a part of me and I am of her; whoever harms her has harmed me, and whoever harms me has harmed God; and whoever harms her after my death is as one who harmed her in my lifetime, and whoever harmed her in my lifetime has harmed her after my death? They said: By God, yes. So she said: Praise belongs to God. Then she said: O God, I call You to witness — and bear witness, you who are present with me — that these two have harmed me in my lifetime and at my death. By God, I shall not speak a word to you from my head until I meet my Lord and complain of you to Him for what you have done to me and committed against me. [3]

And in another report she raised her hand to the sky and said: O God, these two have harmed me; so I complain of them to You and to Your Messenger. No, by God, I shall never be reconciled to you, until I meet my father, the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, and tell him what you have done — and he shall be the judge between you. He said: So at that Abu
