فصل [ بعث زينب بنت رسول الله ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) فداء لأبي العاص زوجها ] روي عن أرباب السير ونقلة الآثار ، إنه لما سارت قريش إلى بدر ، سار أبو العاص ابن أخت خديجة زوج زينب بنت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله معهم ، فأصيب في الأسرى يوم بدر فأتي به النبي صلى الله عليه وآله فكان عنده مع الأسارى ، فلما بعث أهل مكة في فداء أساريهم بعثت زينب في فداء أبي العاص بعلها بمال وكان فيما بعثت به قلادة كانت لخديجة أمها رضي الله عنها أدخلتها بها على أبي العاص ليلة زفافها عليه ، فلما رآها رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله رق لها رقة شديدة وقال للمسلمين : إن رأيتم أن تطلقوا أسيرها وتردوا عليها ما بعثت به من الفداء فافعلوا فقالوا : نعم يا رسول الله نفديك بأنفسنا وأموالنا ، فردوا عليها ما بعثت به وأطلقوا لها أبا العاص بغير فداء 1 .

Section [the sending by Zaynab, the daughter of the Messenger of God (may God bless him and his Family), of a ransom for Abu al-'As her husband]. It is related from the masters of the campaigns and the transmitters of the reports: that when Quraysh marched to Badr, Abu al-'As, the son of Khadija's sister and the husband of Zaynab the daughter of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, marched with them; and he was taken among the captives on the day of Badr and brought to the Prophet, may God bless him and his Family, and was with him among the prisoners. And when the people of Mecca sent for the ransom of their captives, Zaynab sent for the ransom of Abu al-'As her husband with property; and among what she sent was a necklace that had belonged to Khadija her mother, may God be pleased with her, with which she had brought her in to Abu al-'As on the night of her wedding to him. And when the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, saw it, he was moved with a deep tenderness for her and said to the Muslims: If you see fit to release her captive and to return to her what she has sent of the ransom, then do so. And they said: Yes, O Messenger of God; we ransom you with ourselves and our properties. So they returned to her what she had sent, and released Abu al-'As for her without ransom. [1]

قال ابن أبي الحديد : قرأت على النقيب أبي جعفر يحيى بن أبي زيد البصري العلوي هذا الخبر فقال : أترى أبا بكر وعمر لم يشهدا هذا المشهد ؟ ! !

Ibn Abi al-Hadid said: I read this report to the naqib Abu Ja'far Yahya b. Abi Zayd al-Basri al-'Alawi, and he said: Do you suppose that Abu Bakr and 'Umar did not witness this scene?!!

أما كان يقتضي التكرم والإحسان أن يطيب قلب فاطمة عليها السلام بفدك ويستوهب لها من المسلمين ؟

Did not nobility and kindness require that Fatima's heart, peace be upon her, should be made glad with Fadak, and that it should be asked of the Muslims as a gift for her?

أتقصر منزلتها عند رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله من منزلة زينب أختها ؟ ! !

Is her station with the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, less than the station of Zaynab her sister?!!
