روى الطبري والثقفي إنهما قالا في تاريخيهما : إنه جاءت عائشة إلى عثمان فقالت : أعطني ما كان يعطيني أبي وعمر قال : لا أجد له موضعا في الكتاب ولا في السنة ولكن كان أبوك وعمر يعطيانك عن طيبة أنفسهما وأنا لا أفعل قالت : فأعطني ميراثي من رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله قال : أو لم تجئ فاطمة تطلب ميراثها من رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله ؟

Al-Tabari and al-Thaqafi related — they both said in their histories: that 'A'isha came to 'Uthman and said: Give me what my father and 'Umar used to give me. He said: I find no place for it in the Book nor in the Sunna; but your father and 'Umar used to give it to you out of the goodness of their own souls, and I shall not do it. She said: Then give me my inheritance from the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family. He said: Did Fatima not come seeking her inheritance from the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family?

فشهدت أنت ومالك بن أوس البصري : أن النبي صلى الله عليه وآله لا يورث وأبطلت حق فاطمة عليها السلام وجئت تطلبينه ؟ لا أفعل .

And you and Malik b. Aws al-Basri testified that the Prophet, may God bless him and his Family, is not inherited from, and you voided the right of Fatima, peace be upon her — and now you come seeking it? I shall not do it.

وزاد الطبري وكان عثمان متكأ فاستوى جالسا وقال : ستعلم فاطمة أي ابن عم لها مني اليوم ألست وأعرابي يتوضأ ببوله ، شهدت عند أبيك ، قالا جميعا في تاريخيهما 6 .

And al-Tabari added: and 'Uthman was reclining, and he sat up straight and said: Fatima shall know today what kind of cousin she has in me. Were you not — you and a bedouin who performs his ablution with his own urine — the ones who testified before your father? Both of them said it in their histories. [6]
