your hearts have taken to themselves. But it is the overflowing of the soul and the breathing-out of rage and the weakness of the spear-shaft [60] and the outpouring of the breast and the setting forth of the proof. So take it: load it upon a galled back and a worn hoof, lasting in shame, branded with the anger of God and with everlasting disgrace, joined to the kindled fire of God which rises over the hearts. It is before the eye of God, what you do; “and those who have done wrong shall know to what a place of turning they shall turn.”

And I am the daughter of a warner to you before a severe punishment. So act — we too are acting; and wait — we too are waiting. [61]

And al-Shaykh al-Azari, may God have mercy on him, did well in this place, in his words: — They broke the covenant of Ahmad concerning his brother, — and made the Chaste One taste what grieved her, — the day she came to 'Adi and Taym, — and of sorrow there was that which made her weeping long. — She drew near and complained to God a complaint — at which the firm mountains shook. — I do not know, when she was terrified and bare-headed, — whether the people opposed her husband or her father. — She admonished the people in the most perfect address; — she resembled the Chosen One in it, and he resembled her. — These are the Books — ask them, and you will see them — speaking of inheritance; so take hold of them. — And in the sense of “God charges you” is a command — that includes mankind in its kinship. — So the hearts were set at rest by her, and the rancours — were near to departing from him who had folded them. — O people, desire God in our regard: — we are what the garden of the Majestic has plucked. — And know that we are the rites of God's religion — among you; so honour him who dwells with them. — And we have from the treasuries of the Unseen an overflow — from which the rightly guided draw their guidance. — O people, what daughter of a prophet is there — whose father has withheld from her his inheritance? — How is my legacy taken from me for a curst one, — by sayings which he has forged of his own? — How is it that our Master did not charge us with that, — and charged Taym with it instead of us?
