and left a mark upon her noble body; and that beating was the strongest cause in the casting of her unborn child — and the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family, had named him Muhsin. And they set to leading the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him, to the mosque, until they made him stand before Abu Bakr; and Fatima, peace be upon her, followed him to the mosque to free him, and was not able to do so. So she turned aside to her father's grave, and pointed towards it with burning grief and lamentation, saying: — My soul is held prisoner by its sighs; — would that it had gone out along with the sighs. — There is no good in life after you; and I weep — only for fear that my life should be long. Then she said: Alas for you, O my father! Then she gave a moan, and said: Alas for Muhammad! Alas for the beloved! Alas for my father! Alas for Abu al-Qasim! Alas for Ahmad! Alas for the fewness of his helpers! Alas, for rescue! Alas for the length of my distress! Alas for my sorrow! Alas for my calamity! Alas for the evil of this morning! And she fell down in a swoon. So the people clamoured with weeping and lamentation, and the mosque became a house of mourning. Then they made the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him, stand before Abu Bakr and said to him: Stretch out your hand and pledge!!!

They said: We shall strike that in which your two eyes are. He said: So he raised his head to the sky and said: “O God, I call You to witness that they have come to kill me; and I am the servant of God and the brother of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his Family.” So they said to him: Stretch out your hand and pledge!!!
