Elucidation: "Al-ma'alim" are that by which the truth is known, and what is meant by them here are the infallible Imams, peace be upon them. Da'awat al-Rawandi: Among the counsels of Dhu al-Qarnayn: Do not learn knowledge from one whom his knowledge has not profited; for one whose knowledge has not profited him will not profit you either.

Abu 'Ubayd related in his book Gharib al-Hadith, concerning a hadith of the Prophet: When 'Umar came to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, he said: We hear hadiths from the Jews that astonish us; will you permit us to write down some of those hadiths? The Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, said: Do you wish to perish as the Jews and Christians perished? I have brought you a clear and pure religion; were Moses alive, he would have no choice but to follow me. Abu 'Ubayd says: The meaning of the hadith is this: Are you bewildered in the religion of Islam and do not know your religion, that you take it from the Jews and Christians? It seems the Prophet was displeased by 'Umar's words.

And he said: Take wisdom wherever you find it, for wisdom stirs in the hypocrite's breast until it comes out of his mouth, and settles with its own companion in the believer's breast.
