Al-Ikhtisas: Al-Hasan b. Faddal related the like of it. Perhaps the narrator's intent is that if there is no text and analogy is also not permissible, matters become narrow for the people. The Imam answered: Everything is in the Book and the practice. Or the narrator's intent may be: why is analogy not permissible? The Imam answers: there is no need of analogy; or that analogy leads to opposing the Book and the practice — and this very sense is confirmed in the narration of al-Ikhtisas.

Al-Ikhtisas and Basa'ir al-Darajat: Muhammad b. Hakim says: I said to Abu al-Hasan, peace be upon him: We are learned in religion, and narrations have been related to us. Often a person asks about minor questions and we do not have their answer word for word, but something like it is available; may we answer? He said: What have you to do with analogy, which leads to destruction? The Prophet has stated everything up to the Day of Resurrection, and it is with us. I said: Has anything of the Prophet's rulings been lost? He said: No, it is with its own people.

Perhaps what is meant by "by analogy" is an explanation of his words ["in that"]; and it is possible that "in that" is attached to "analogy". And in the copy of al-Ikhtisas the words "by analogy" are not present.

Al-Mahasin: Sama'a says: I said to Abu al-Hasan, peace be upon him: Some of the Prophet's companions, may God bless him and his family, have seen your father and your grandfather. A person is faced with a question whose answer we do not have; may we answer by way of analogy? He said: No! Analogy caused the destruction of those who were before you.

Al-Mahasin: Muhammad b. Hakim says: I said to Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him: A group of the companions are jurists and scholars and narrators of hadith; when they are asked a question, may they answer by their own opinion? He said: No! Did those who went before perish by anything but this and its like?

Al-Mahasin: Muhammad b. Hakim says:

.And the first is confirmed by what comes after it: "Did the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, bring what suffices them?"
Apparently it is one and the same as what came under number 48, although one is brief and the other detailed.
