Ma'ani al-Akhbar and 'Uyun Akhbar al-Rida, peace be upon him: 'Abd al-Salam b. Salih al-Harawi said: I heard Imam al-Rida, peace be upon him, say: May God have mercy on one who revives our cause. I said: How does one revive your cause? He said: He learns our sciences and teaches them to the people; for if people knew the excellence of our words they would follow us. I said: It has been related to us from Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, that he said: Whoever learns something in order to dispute with the ignorant, or to vaunt himself over the scholars, or to turn the faces of people towards himself — such a one belongs to the Fire. Imam al-Rida, peace be upon him, said: My grandfather spoke truly. Do you know who the foolish are? I said: No, O son of the Messenger of God. He said: They are the storytellers of the Sunnis. And do you know who the scholars are? I said: No, O son of the Messenger of God. He said: They are the scholars of the family of Muhammad, whose obedience and love God has made obligatory. Then he said: And do you know what he meant by "to turn people's faces towards himself"? I said: No. He said: By God, he meant the baseless and improper claim to the Imamate; and whoever does that belongs to the Fire.

Thawab al-A'mal: Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: Whoever acts upon what he knows is spared the need of what he does not know.

"Kufiya ma lam ya'lam" means: God gives him that knowledge without toil.

Al-Mahasin: Yazid al-Sa'igh related from Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon him, that he said: O Yazid, the most regretful of people on the Day of Resurrection are those who described justice and then went against it. That is the word of God, exalted: "Lest a soul should say: Alas for me, for what I neglected of my duty to God."

"Fi janbi llah" means obedience to God, or obedience to those charged with God's affair, who are brought near to His presence, as though they were at His side.

Al-Mahasin: Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, said concerning the word of God, exalted, "Then they shall be flung headlong into it, they and the deluded": What is meant is one who describes justice to others and himself goes against it in practice.

Al-Mahasin: Al-Mufaddal related from Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, that he said: Regret and remorse and woe are all upon one who has not profited from his own sight, and does not know whether the guardianship of the Household that he holds has profited him or harmed him. I said: By what does a man attain salvation? He said: One whose deed accords with his word,
