My master! Both are well known and both related from you. He said: Act upon the word of the more just and the more trustworthy of the two narrators; and if both narrators have these qualities, act upon the narration that differs from the Sunnis. And if both accord with them or both differ from them, act upon the narration that corresponds to precaution in religion. And if both accord with precaution or both differ from it, you have the choice to act upon whichever you wish.
وَ فِي رِوَايَةٍ أَنَّهُ عليه السلام قَالَ: إِذَنْ فَأَرْجِهْ حَتَّى تَلْقَى إِمَامَكَ فَتَسْأَلَهُ.
And in another narration it has come: Postpone it until you ask the Imam about the ruling.
بيان: هذا الخبر يدل على أن موافقة الاحتياط من جملة مرجحات الخبرين المتعارضين.
This hadith indicates agreement with precaution, which is among the grounds of preference between two conflicting reports.

Rijal al-Kashshi: Al-Mufaddal related from Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him: One day Fayd b. al-Mukhtar came in upon him and reminded him of a verse of the Qur'an, and the Imam, peace be upon him, interpreted it. Fayd said: May I be your ransom! What is this disagreement among your Shi'a? He, peace be upon him, said: What disagreement, O Fayd? Fayd said: I sit among them in Kufa, and on account of their disagreement I am near to doubting about hadith; but I go to al-Mufaddal b. 'Umar and he makes the truth clear to me and removes my doubt. The Imam, peace be upon him, said: It is as you say. People are eager to ascribe lies to us, as though God had made lying against us obligatory. I tell a hadith to someone, and before he has left my presence he sets about a false interpretation of it; and this is on account of their seeking the world, for each of them wants to claim leadership — whereas God brings low the overweening and raises high and ennobles the humble. If you want our hadith, ask this one who is sitting in the gathering — and he pointed to one of his companions. I asked the companions: Who is that gentleman? They said: Zurara b. A'yan.
