Kitab 'Asim b. Humayd: Abu Basir says: Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: Write, for you cannot remember except by writing.

Abu Basir says: I went in to Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, and he said: Some people of Basra came to me and asked me about hadiths and wrote them down. What keeps you from writing? Is it not so that you can never remember unless you write?

Amali of al-Saduq: Muhammad b. Muslim: Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: Whoever of our Shi'a memorises forty hadiths, God will raise him up on the Day of Resurrection as a learned man and a jurist and will not punish him.

Al-Ikhtisas: Abu Najran related from certain of our companions, from Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, that he said: Whoever memorises forty of our hadiths, God, exalted, will raise him up on the Day of Resurrection as a learned jurist.

Al-Khisal: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, said: Whoever memorises forty hadiths concerning matters of religion that the community has need of, God will raise him up on the Day of Resurrection as a jurist and a learned man.
