و أخبرني الشيخ المقري أبو عبد اللّٰه محمد بن الكال ١عن الشريف الجليل نظام الشرف أبي الحسن العريضي عن ابن شهريار الخازن عن الشيخ أبي جعفر الطوسي.
And there informed me the Shaykh, the reciter, Abu 'Abd Allah Muhammad b. al-Kal (1), from the noble, the eminent, Nizam al-Sharaf Abu al-Hasan al-'Uraydi, from Ibn Shahriyar the treasurer, from the Shaykh Abu Ja'far al-Tusi.
و أخبرني الشيخ الفقيه أبو عبد اللّٰه محمد بن علي بن شهرآشوب قراءة عليه بحلة الجامعين في شهور سنة سبع و ستين و خمس مائة عن جده شهرآشوب عن الشيخ السعيد أبي جعفر محمد بن الحسن الطوسي رضي اللّٰه عنه قال حدثنا ابن أبي جيد عن محمد بن الحسن بن أحمد بن الوليد و محمد بن أبي القاسم الملقب بماجيلويه عن محمد بن علي الصيرفي عن حماد بن عيسى عن أبان بن أبي عياش عن سليم بن قيس الهلالي.
And there informed me the Shaykh, the jurist, Abu 'Abd Allah Muhammad b. 'Ali b. Shahrashub, by recitation to him at Hilla of the Two Mosques in the months of the year five hundred and sixty-seven, from his grandfather Shahrashub, from the Shaykh, the felicitous, Abu Ja'far Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Tusi, may God be pleased with him. He said: There related to us Ibn Abi Jayd, from Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. Ahmad b. al-Walid and Muhammad b. Abi al-Qasim, styled Majilawayh, from Muhammad b. 'Ali al-Sayrafi, from Hammad b. 'Isa, from Aban b. Abi 'Ayyash, from Sulaym b. Qays al-Hilali.
قال الشيخ أبو جعفر و أخبرنا أبو عبد اللّٰه الحسين بن عبيد اللّٰه الغضائري قال أخبرنا أبو محمد هارون بن موسى بن أحمد التلعكبري رحمه اللّٰه قال أخبرنا علي بن همام بن سهيل قال أخبرنا عبد اللّٰه بن جعفر الحميري عن يعقوب بن يزيد و محمد بن الحسين بن أبي الخطاب و أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى عن محمد بن أبي عمير عن عمر بن أذينة عن أبان بن أبي عياش عن سليم بن قيس الهلالي.
The Shaykh Abu Ja'far said: And there informed us Abu 'Abd Allah al-Husayn b. 'Ubayd Allah al-Ghada'iri. He said: There informed us Abu Muhammad Harun b. Musa b. Ahmad al-Tal'ukbari, may God have mercy on him. He said: There informed us 'Ali b. Hammam b. Suhayl. He said: There informed us 'Abd Allah b. Ja'far al-Himyari, from Ya'qub b. Yazid and Muhammad b. al-Husayn b. Abi al-Khattab and Ahmad b. Muhammad b. 'Isa, from Muhammad b. Abi 'Umayr, from 'Umar b. Udhayna, from Aban b. Abi 'Ayyash, from Sulaym b. Qays al-Hilali.
قال عمر بن أذينة دعاني ابن أبي عياش فقال لي رأيت البارحة رؤيا أني لخليق أن أموت سريعا إني رأيتك الغداة ففرحت بك إني رأيت الليلة سليم بن قيس الهلالي فقال لي يا أبان إنك ميت في أيامك هذه فاتق اللّٰه في وديعتي و لا تضيعها و ف لي بما ضمنت من كتمانك و لا تضعها إلا عند رجل من شيعة علي بن أبي طالب صلوات اللّٰه عليه له دين و حسب فلما بصرت بك الغداة فرحت برؤيتك و ذكرت رؤياي سليم بن قيس.
'Umar b. Udhayna said: Ibn Abi 'Ayyash called me and said to me: I saw a dream last night, and I am likely to die soon. I saw you this morning and rejoiced at you. Last night I saw Sulaym b. Qays al-Hilali, and he said to me: Aban, you will die in these days of yours. So fear God concerning my trust and do not squander it, and fulfil for me what you guaranteed of keeping it hidden, and place it only with a man of the Shi'a of 'Ali b. Abi Talib, God's blessings be upon him, who has religion and standing. So when I caught sight of you this morning I rejoiced at seeing you, and remembered my dream of Sulaym b. Qays.
لما قدم الحجاج العراق سأل عن سليم بن قيس فهرب منه فوقع إلينا بالنوبندجان ٢متواريا فنزل معنا في الدار فلم أر رجلا كان أشد إجلالا لنفسه و لا أشد اجتهادا و لا أطول بغضا للشهوة منه و أنا يومئذ ابن أربع عشرة سنة قد قرأت القرآن و كنت أسأله فيحدثني عن أهل بدر فسمعت منه أحاديث كثير عن عمر بن أبي سلمة ابن
When al-Hajjaj came to Iraq he asked after Sulaym b. Qays, and he fled from him and came upon us at Nawbandajan (2) in hiding, and lodged with us in the house. I never saw a man of greater self-respect, nor more intense in striving, nor longer in hatred of appetite, than he. And I at that time was fourteen years old and had read the Qur'an. I would question him, and he would relate to me from the people of Badr. And I heard from him many traditions from 'Umar b. Abi Salama, the son of
