«11»- nhj, the Nahj al-Balagha: The Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him, said: So let the scout be truthful to his people, and let him bring his intellect to bear, and let him be of the sons of the hereafter — for from it he came, and to it he returns. So the one who looks with the heart, who acts with sight — let the beginning of his deed be that he know whether his deed is against him or for him. If it is for him, let him go forward in it; and if it is against him, let him hold back from it. For the one who acts without knowledge is like the one who travels off a road: his distance from the road only increases him in distance from his need; and the one who acts by knowledge is like the one who travels upon the clear road. So let the looker look: is he travelling on, or turning back? —

«12»- The Kanz of al-Karajuki: al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: Look well into that of which ignorance is not permitted to you, and counsel your souls sincerely, and strive with them (1) in the seeking of the knowledge of that in the ignorance of which you have no excuse. For the religion of God has pillars: whoever is ignorant of them, the intensity of his striving in the seeking of the outward of his worship does not profit him; and whoever knows them and serves by them, the goodness of his moderation does not harm him. And there is no way for anyone to that save by a help from God, mighty and majestic.
