his father, from Muhammad b. Ya'la, from Abu Nu'aym 'Umar b. Sabih, from Muqatil b. Hayyan, from al-Dahhak b. Muzahim, from al-Nazzal b. Sabra, from 'Ali, peace be upon him, and from 'Abd Allah b. Mas'ud, from the Messenger of God — may God bless him and his family — who said: Whoever goes out seeking a door of knowledge, that he may turn back by it a falsehood to a truth or an error to right guidance, that deed of his is like the worship of one who worships forty years.

«73»- ma, the Amali of al-Shaykh al-Tusi: al-Husayn b. Ibrahim al-Qazwini, from Muhammad b. Wahban, from 'Ali b. Hubaysh, from al-'Abbas b. Muhammad b. al-Husayn, from his father, from Safwan, from al-Husayn b. Abi Ghundar, from Ibn Abi Ya'fur, from Abu 'Abd Allah, peace be upon him, who said: The perfection of the believer is in three traits: understanding in his religion, patience in misfortune, and measured management in livelihood.

«74»- ma, the Amali of al-Shaykh al-Tusi: a group, from Abu al-Mufaddal, from Raja' b. Yahya, from Hamdan, from Harun b. Muslim, from Mas'ada b. Ziyad, from al-Sadiq, from his father, peace be upon him, who said: Abu Dharr, God be pleased with him, said in a sermon of his: O seeker of knowledge, let not the world, nor family, nor wealth distract you from your own soul. You, on the day you part from them, are like a guest who has passed a night among them and then gone forth in the morning from them to others. This world and the hereafter are like a lodging from which you have moved to another. And between the raising up and death there is nothing but the like of a sleep you have slept and then awoken from. O ignorant one, learn knowledge; for a heart in which there is nothing of knowledge is like the ruined house that has none to dwell in it.

«75»- It was transmitted from the hand of the vizier Muhammad b. al-'Alqami, who said: The Shaykh al-San'ani — may God the Exalted preserve him — dictated it to me on the third of Safar in the year six hundred and forty-eight. He said: The Prophet — may God bless him and his family — said: Two are insatiable and are never filled: the seeker of knowledge and the seeker of the world. As for the seeker of knowledge, he increases in the good pleasure of the All-Merciful; and as for the seeker of the world, he persists in insolence.

«76»- nhj, the Nahj al-Balagha: Knowledge is a noble inheritance, and thought is a clear mirror.

«77»- And he said, peace be upon him: The worth of every man is what he does well.

The Sayyid, God be pleased with him, said: And this is the word for which no worth can be attained, with which no wisdom can be weighed, and to which no word can be paired.

«78»- And he said, peace be upon him: Indeed these hearts grow weary as bodies grow weary; so seek out for them choice pieces of wisdom.
