upon them, and to carry him where he wishes of the lands. And its meaning is help in the seeking of knowledge. And the first is supported by what will come of the report of al-Miqdad (1). His words "in contentment with him" is an object of cause; and it is possible that it is a circumstantial expression by construal — that is, being content, not compelled. His words, peace be upon him, "they bequeathed neither dinar nor dirham" — that is, the greatest part of their inheritance was knowledge. And it is possible to construe it literally, in that there did not remain of them a dinar nor a dirham.

Al-Najashi set him down in his Rijal, p. 173, saying: 'Abd al-'Azim b. 'Abd Allah b. 'Ali b. al-Hasan b. Zayd b. al-Hasan b. 'Ali b. Abi Talib, peace be upon them, Abu al-Qasim; he has a book of the sermons of the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him. Abu 'Abd Allah al-Husayn b. 'Ubayd Allah said: There related to us Ja'far b. Muhammad Abu al-Qasim, who said: There related to us 'Ali b. al-Husayn al-Sa'dabadi, who said: There related to us Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Khalid al-Barqi, who said: 'Abd al-'Azim came to Rayy fleeing from the sultan and dwelt in a cellar in the house of a man of the Shi'a in the Lane of the Clients. He would worship God in that cellar, fasting his day and standing his night; and he would go out concealed and visit the grave facing his own grave, with the road between them, and say: it is the grave of a man of the children of Musa b. Ja'far, peace be upon him. He continued to take shelter in that cellar, and news of him reached one after another of the Shi'a of the family of Muhammad, peace be upon them, until most of them knew him. Then a man of the Shi'a saw in a dream the Messenger of God, may God bless him and his family, who said to him: a man of my descendants will be carried from the Lane of the Clients and buried by the apple tree in the garden of 'Abd al-Jabbar b. 'Abd al-Wahhab — and he pointed to the place in which he was buried. So the man went to buy the tree and its place from its owner, who said to him: For what do you seek the tree and its place? So he told him of the vision. And the owner of the tree mentioned that he had seen the like of this vision, and that he had made the place of the tree together with the whole garden an endowment for the noble, and the Shi'a bury in it. Then 'Abd al-'Azim fell ill and died, God's mercy be upon him; and when he was stripped to be washed, there was found in his pocket a note in which was the mention of his lineage. And al-Saduq related in the book Thawab al-A'mal, p. 56, on the excellence of visiting him, a narration by his chain from 'Ali b. Ahmad, from Hamza b. al-Qasim al-'Alawi, from Muhammad b. Yahya al-'Attar, from one of the people of Rayy who entered upon Abu al-Hasan 'Ali b. Muhammad al-Hadi, peace be upon him, who said: I entered upon Abu al-Hasan al-'Askari, peace be upon him, and he said: Where have you been? I said: I visited al-Husayn, peace be upon him. He said: Indeed, had you visited the grave of 'Abd al-'Azim among you, you would have been like one who visited al-Husayn b. 'Ali, peace be upon them both.
