«5»- ma, the Amali of al-Shaykh al-Tusi: al-Mufid, from Muhammad b. 'Umar al-Ju'abi, from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Sa'id, from al-Hasan b. Ja'far, from Tahir b. Midrar, from Zurr [Razin b. Anas], who said: I heard Ja'far b. Muhammad, peace be upon them both, saying: The believer is not a believer until he is complete in intellect; and he is not complete in intellect until ten qualities are in him. And he carried the tradition on in the manner of what has passed.
«6»- 'a, 'Ilal al-Shara'i': Ibn al-Walid, from al-Saffar, from Ibrahim b. Hashim, from Abu Ishaq Ibrahim b. al-Haytham al-Khaffaf, from a man of our companions, from 'Abd al-Malik b. Hisham, from 'Ali al-Ash'ari, raising it, said: The Messenger of God — may God bless him and his family — said: God has not been worshipped with the like of the intellect; and no man's intellect has been complete until ten qualities are in him. And he mentioned the like of it.
Elucidation: in ma and 'a, after his words "and the tenth" is "and what is the tenth?" And his words, peace be upon him, "God has not been worshipped with anything" — that is, nothing becomes a cause of worship, and an instrument for it, and a perfecter of it, like the intellect. And it is possible that what is meant by the intellect is the intellecting of religious matters and of the certain divine sciences, and reflection upon them, and the acquiring of knowledge — and that is among the most excellent acts of worship, as will come; so what is mentioned after it would be of the attributes of the learned. And al-majd is the attaining of honour and nobility. And "he has become chief of the people of his age" — that is, he became their master, their great one and their noblest.

«7»- l, al-Khisal: my father, from Sa'd and al-Himyari together, from al-Barqi, from 'Ali b. Hadid, from Sama'a, who said: I was with Abu 'Abd Allah, peace be upon him, and with him was a company of his followers, and the mention of intellect and ignorance came up. So Abu 'Abd Allah, peace be upon him, said: Know the intellect and its host, and ignorance and its host, and you will be rightly guided. Sama'a said: So I said: May I be made your ransom, we know only what you have made known to us. So Abu 'Abd Allah, peace be upon him, said: God, majestic be His praise, created the intellect — and it is the first creature He created among the spiritual beings (1) — on the right of the Throne, from His light (2). He said to it: Come forward — and it came forward. Then He said to it: Go back — and it went back. So God, blessed and exalted, said: I have created you a great creation and honoured you above all My creation. He said: Then He created ignorance from the bitter sea, dark; and He said
