لدعوته مستجيبين وللعزة فيه ملاحظين ، ثم استنهضكم فوجدكم خفافا وأحمشكم 46 فألقاكم غضابا ، فوسمتم غير إبلكم وأوردتم غير شربكم .

answering to his call and observant of the might in it. Then he roused you, and found you light; and he stirred you, [46] and found you angry. So you branded camels that were not yours and came down to a watering-place that was not yours.

هذا ، والعهد قريب والكلم رحيب والجرح لما يندمل والرسول لما يقبر ابتدارا زعمتم خوف الفتنة ، ألا في الفتنة سقطوا وإن جهنم لمحيطة بالكافرين .

This — and the covenant was near, the wound wide, the injury not yet healed, and the Messenger not yet buried: a haste for which you claimed the fear of discord. Lo, into discord they have fallen; and truly Hell encompasses the unbelievers.

فهيهات منكم وكيف بكم وأنى تؤفكون وكتاب الله بين أظهركم ، أموره ظاهرة وأحكامه زاهرة وأعلامه باهرة وزواجره لايحة وأوامره واضحة قد خلفتموه وراء ظهوركم أرغبة عنه تريدون أم بغيره تحكمون بئس للظالمين بدلا ، ومن يبتغ غير الإسلام دينا فلن يقبل منه وهو في الآخرة من الخاسرين .

Far be it from you! And how is it with you, and where are you turned away — while the Book of God is among you, its matters manifest, its rulings radiant, its signs shining, its prohibitions plain, its commands clear? You have cast it behind your backs. Is it in aversion from it that you desire this, or by other than it that you judge? Evil for the wrongdoers is the exchange. And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it shall not be accepted of him, and in the hereafter he is among the losers.

ثم لم تلبثوا إلا ريث أن تسكن نفرتها ويسلس قيادها ، ثم أخذتم تورون وقدتها وتهيجون جمرتها ، وتستجيبون لهتاف الشيطان الغوي وإطفاء أنوار الدين الجلي وإهماد سنن النبي الصفي ، تسرون حسوا في ارتغاء 47 وتمشون لأهله وولده في الخمرة والضراء ويصير منكم على مثل حز المدي 48 ووخز السنان 49 في الحشاء ، وأنتم الآن تزعمون : أن لا أرث لنا ، أفحكم الجاهلية تبغون ومن أحسن من الله حكما لقوم يوقنون ؟ ! ! فلا تعلمون ؟

Then you tarried only so long as it took for her wildness to settle and her leading-rein to run smooth. Then you set to kindling her flame and stirring her embers, and answering the call of the misleading Satan, and putting out the lights of the manifest religion, and extinguishing the practices of the chosen Prophet. You sip in secret, skimming the froth; [47] and you walk towards his family and his children in the covert and the thicket; and we must bear it as one bears the cutting of knives [48] and the thrust of the spearhead [49] in the entrails. And now you claim that we have no inheritance. “Is it the judgement of the age of ignorance that they seek? And who is better than God in judgement for a people who are certain?” Do you then not know?

بلى قد تجلى لكم كالشمس الضاحية أني ابنته أيها المسلمون أأغلب على أرثه .

Nay, it has become clear to you as the shining sun that I am his daughter. O Muslims, am I to be overcome in the matter of his inheritance?

يا بن أبي قحافة أفي كتاب الله أن ترث أباك ولا أرث أبي ؟ لقد جئت شيئا فريا ؟

O son of Abi Quhafa, is it in the Book of God that you should inherit your father and I should not inherit mine? You have surely brought a monstrous thing!

، أفعلى عمد تركتم كتاب الله ونبذتموه وراء ظهوركم إذ يقول : * ( وورث سليمان داود ) * 50 ، وقال فيما اقتص من خبر يحيى بن زكريا إذ قال : رب

Was it deliberately that you abandoned the Book of God and cast it behind your backs, when He says: “And Solomon inherited David”; [50] and said, in what He recounted of the report of Yahya b. Zakariyya, when he said: My Lord,
