عليه عمر و عامر فقرأته عليه ثلاثة أيام فقال لي صدق سليم رحمه اللّٰه هذا حديثنا كله نعرفه و قال أبو الطفيل و عمر بن أبي سلمة ما فيه حديث إلا و قد سمعته من علي صلوات اللّٰه عليه و من سلمان و من أبي ذر و المقداد.

to him 'Umar and 'Amir. So I read it to him for three days, and he said to me: Sulaym spoke truly, may God have mercy on him; this is all our tradition, we recognize it. And Abu al-Tufayl and 'Umar b. Abi Salama said: There is not in it a tradition but that we have heard it from 'Ali, God's blessings be upon him, and from Salman and from Abu Dharr and al-Miqdad.

قال عمر بن أذينة ثم دفع إلى أبان كتب سليم بن قيس الهلالي و لم يلبث أبان بعد ذلك إلا شهرا حتى مات.

'Umar b. Udhayna said: Then Aban handed to me the books of Sulaym b. Qays al-Hilali; and Aban did not tarry after that more than a month before he died.

فهذه نسخة كتاب سليم بن قيس العامري دفعه إلى أبان بن أبي عياش و قرأه على و ذكر أبان أنه قرأه على علي بن الحسين عليهما السلام فقال عليه السلام صدق سليم هذا حديثنا نعرفه انتهى.

This is a copy of the book of Sulaym b. Qays al-'Amiri, which he handed to Aban b. Abi 'Ayyash, and which he read to me. And Aban mentioned that he read it to 'Ali b. al-Husayn, peace be upon them both, and he, peace be upon him, said: Sulaym spoke truly; this is our tradition, we recognize it. End of quotation.

و أقول سيأتي تمام ذلك في كتاب الفتن و سنورد سائر مفتتحات الكتب و أسانيدها في المجلد الخامس و العشرين إن شاء اللّٰه تعالى و حيث فرغنا مما أردنا إيراده في مقدمة الكتاب فلنذكر فهرست ما اشتمل عليه كتابنا من الكتب و ترتيبها ثم لنشرع في إيراد المقاصد في الأبواب و لا حول و لا قوة إلا باللّٰه و عليه التوكل و إليه المآب.

I say: the completion of that will come in the Kitab al-Fitan; and we shall set down the remaining prefaces of the books and their chains in the twenty-fifth volume, if God the Exalted wills. And since we have finished what we intended to set down in the introduction to the book, let us mention the index of the books our book comprises and their arrangement; then let us begin setting down the matters in their chapters. There is no power and no strength save in God; upon Him is the reliance, and to Him is the return.
