And the Book of Tahqiq al-Firqa al-Najiya; the Epistle of al-Rida, peace be upon him; and others — by the eminent Shaykh Ibrahim al-Qatifi.

فهذه الكتب هي التي عليها مدار النقل و إن كان من بعضها نادرا و إن أخرجنا من غيرها فنصرح في الكتاب عند إيراد الخبر.

These, then, are the books upon which the transmission turns, even if from some of them only rarely. Should we cite from any other, we state so explicitly in the book when setting down the report.

As for the books of those who differ from us, we may have recourse to them in order to establish the wording of a report and determine its meanings — such as the books of lexicography: the Sihah of al-Jawhari, the Qamus of al-Firuzabadi, the Nihaya of al-Jazari, al-Mughrib and al-Mu'rib of al-Mutarrizi, the Mufradat of al-Raghib al-Isfahani and his Muhadarat, al-Misbah al-Munir of Ahmad b. Muhammad al-Muqri, Majma' al-Bihar by one of the scholars of India, Mujmal al-Lugha and al-Maqayis of Ibn Faris, al-Jamhara of Ibn Durayd, Asas al-Balagha of al-Zamakhshari, al-Fa'iq, Mustaqsa al-Amthal and Rabi' al-Abrar likewise his, al-Gharibayn, Gharib al-Qur'an, Majma' al-Amthal of al-Maydani, Tahdhib al-Lugha of al-Azhari, and the Book of Shams al-'Ulum; and the commentaries on their reports, such as the commentary of al-Tibi on al-Mishkat, Fath al-Bari fi Sharh al-Bukhari of Ibn Hajar, the commentary of al-Qastallani, the commentary of al-Kirmani, the commentary of al-Zarkashi, the commentary on al-Maqasid al-'Aliyya, al-Minhaj, the two commentaries of al-Nawawi and al-Ubbi on the Sahih of Muslim, Nazir 'Ayn al-Gharibayn, al-Mafatih fi Sharh al-Masabih, the commentary on al-Shifa', and Sharh al-Sunna of al-Husayn b. Mas'ud al-Farra'.

و قد نورد من كتب أخبارهم للرد عليهم أو لبيان مورد التقية أو لتأييد

And we may cite from the books of their reports in order to refute them, or to indicate an instance of dissimulation, or to corroborate
